About us
The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We encourage people to enjoy and understand its beauty and helping those who live and work here. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and ecologists.
We are looking for a Catchment Nutrients Officer to project manage, develop, coordinate and deliver the nutrient neutrality partnership project in four Cumbrian SAC catchments (River Derwent, River Kent, Esthwaite Water, River Eden).
What’s it like to work here?
We’ve moved to hybrid working combining working from home and days at our office base in Wayfaring House, Murley Moss. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely.
The role
The Cumbrian nutrient neutrality partnership project has achieved a significant funding award to accelerate the delivery of nutrient mitigation solutions to unlock stalled development in the county.
Working in the Strategy and Environment Team, this role will help us deliver a project to:
• Approve new planning applications
• Assist the delivery of the Cumbrian Authorities’ spatial strategies, particularly in respect of housing and tourism provision
• Create mitigation strategies options for each affected catchment
The post holder will line manage a Graduate Strategy Planner, Catchment Ecologist and Administrator to work closely with and support specialist advisors, rangers, partners and contractors.
It is a rewarding role, working with, and being supported by an experienced and talented team of colleagues and partners.

The role requires a consistent focused effort on effective project management including forward planning, risk management, communications and engagement planning and delivery, benefits tracking, budget management, project monitoring and reporting. As well as an ability to work in a structured, logical and often time pressured way, focussed on delivering the project plan.
This is a great opportunity to take an established partnership project and develop it into its next phase of delivery. We’re looking for someone with project management experience and understanding of catchments, evidence of partnership working, knowledge of the planning system and associated processes as well as a good understanding of national policies as they affect the environment.
